The Prince of Cambridge

You didn't think that with a blog name like Windsor Musings, I could go without mentioning the new heir to the throne, did you? Of course, my blog title has more to do with the town and castle in Berkshire than the royal family itself, but that is neither here nor there.
The time I spent in England was truly formative for me, and completely changed my life goals. I'll be heading back there before too long to start grad school, and the plan there is to start the study that I'll hopefully continue for the rest of my working life: the royal family and it's role in the evolution of British politics and the British Empire. (That's a mouthful, isn't it?!)
The point of all of this is that I am so excited for the birth of the new (as yet unnamed) little prince because I think he represents an important milestone in the progression of the modern royal family. I can't imagine what the pressure of all that media attention has been like for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, but if anything, their wonderfully casual outfits for their hospital leaving are evidence that they're ready to take the monarchy in a more informal and approachable direction, something that is going to be necessary for the institution's continued survival in the modern world. I'm looking forward to watching this little prince grow and watching how he and his family balance modernity and tradition in the intense spotlight they've been born into.
And that's enough punditry for the day! On a completely different note, I think it's amazing how fresh Kate looked just a day after giving birth. She's always so chic, and I wish I could manage heels (even wedges) as effortlessly as she always does. It's a work in progress, that's for sure.
If you'd like to imitate her look (and wouldn't we all), here are some wedges and a polka dotted dress I adore.
