A Very Merry {English} Christmas

I hope you all had a very, very Merry Christmas yesterday!  I spent mine at home, and I cooked a traditional English Christmas dinner for my extended family.  I wasn't sure that they'd get into it, but they really did- there were brussels sprouts, parsnips, a Yule log, Christmas crackers, and paper crowns, and they enjoyed everything much more than I expected they would.

My family can be very traditionalist, and they don't always love trying new things, although we don't have very many firmly established Christmas day traditions, other than the fact that we always get together for lunch.  But I must say, even if we don't do a traditional English Christmas next year, I think we'll have to have Christmas crackers.  There's just something so fun about popping them open, putting on the paper crowns, and laughing at the little trinkets that are included.

To me, there's nothing like spending Christmas with my family, as quirky and funny as we all are.  I'm especially grateful for them this year, for putting up with my culinary exploits and for allowing me to try something completely new to them.  The sight of my uncle and my grandpa wearing paper crowns was priceless, but it was all terribly good fun.

I hope you all had wonderful holidays!  How did you celebrate Christmas?  I'm always looking for new things to try next year!
